JANAAC ACCREDITATION

The Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) – established under the Companies Act of Jamaica as a public sector company, limited by guarantee – is an agency of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce.

Accreditation for Medical Laboratories

Accredited medical laboratories can readily demonstrate conformance to defined standards and best practices and provide the assurance of competence in the analyses that they undertake. The ISO 15189:2012 standard describes the requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories. Accreditation to this standard therefore attests to the capability of the laboratories to demonstrate the technical competence to provide reliable diagnostic testing to meet the health and social service needs of stakeholders including patients and the clinical personnel responsible for their care.

Accreditation Requirements

Laboratories are assessed against the general criteria found within the ISO 15189 International Standard – Medical Laboratories Requirements for Quality and Competence. Laboratories are also expected to be in conformance with local stipulations and recognised best practice.
